Unemployment Information
Update as of March 28, 2020:
Congress has just passed a 2 trillion dollar Coronavirus "stimulus"
bill. Part of the bill affects unemployment benefits. Highlights
are as follows:
-those unemployed, which now includes gig,
self-employed and part-time workers and of course those recently laid
off due to the Coronavirus Pandemic who cannot reach work due to
travel restrictions, will receive an extra $600 per week for up to
four months on top of state unemployment benefits.
-you will not have to wait a week before
unemployment benefits start
The hours have been expended: Monday thru
Thursday : 7:30am to 7:30pm, Friday 7:30 to 5:00pm, Saturday all day
and Sunday until 7:00pm. (see below)
Because the number of claims has increased
almost ten-fold to over 3 million, the unemployment offices are
inundated and it is very difficult to get through to them. They
recommend filing a claim on line.
To help alleviate the huge number of claim
applications, the "Cares Act" was passed on March 27, 2020 to help
process claims and can be found at
Cares Act

To summarize, those whose last name begins with
A to F should file on a Monday, G to N should
file on a Tuesday, O to Z should file on a Wednesday. If
you miss your day for filing you can file on Thursday, Friday or
Saturday .
